It all started with one simple act of kindness, empathy, and encouragement

Back in March of 2019 while sitting in the hospital waiting to have blood drawn, Necrotizing Fasciitis survivor Jonathin listened to his mom Katie read him a Facebook post about a young man across the country who was fighting his own battle with NF, and had also become an amputee as a result of it. She told Jonathin about the young man, and how it must be hard for him to be adjusting to all of the sudden changes in his life. Jonathin was coloring to distract himself from his upcoming appointment, something that he was scared to do even though he knew it was necessary. While he was waiting he decided to draw a picture of himself and of the young man, Dez, holding hands and having fun despite their missing limbs. Jonathin was only 5 at the time, so he asked his mom to write out a quick message to Dez to let him know that everything would be ok, and to encourage him to stay strong. Even at such a young age Jonathin understood that what Dez needed most was love. Since then the two families have remained in contact, sharing recovery stories, prosthesis info, and insurance woes. It was through this friendship that an idea was formed.
